About Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP
Our specialist Court of Protection team advises and assists individuals, their families, carers, trustees, beneficiaries and other professionals on a broad range of issues relating to personal injury trusts, expert witness statements on costs, capacity and deputyships.
Many of our clients lack capacity to handle their own financial affairs as a result of an acquired brain injury. Our team provides the comprehensive service required to set up and manage deputyships within the Court of Protection. We can act as professional deputies and assist with Court of Protection procedures where the deputy is a family member.
We work closely with both the individual and their family to establish long-term relationships and to ensure all decisions are made in the best interests of the individual. Our aim is to relieve the pressure of financial decision making from family members, enabling them to continue to make the key choices and to support their relative on a day-to-day basis.

About Julie Burton
Julie Burton is head of the Court of Protection team at Penningtons Manches Cooper LLP. She acts as a professional deputy for many clients, both children and adults, with complex brain injuries arising from a personal injury, where there is a substantial compensation award.
She also acts as professional trustee in many high-value personal injury trusts, again for both children and adults. She is an experienced private client practitioner with a trust background and also advises in Wills and estate planning, particularly where there is a vulnerable or incapacitated beneficiary involved.
She both creates and sets up complex trusts with Court approval and she, with her team, managed both trusts and deputyships where Julie is the nominated professional or through PennTrust Ltd, who are also Court of Protection panel deputies.
Julie joined Penningtons in 2003. She is a member of STEP.
