About the Sexuality after brain injury webinar

In this session, Dr Richard Maddicks from Psychology Chartered, will be looking at issues faced and how to help with conditions including sexual dysfunction and inappropriate behaviour. He will also discuss ways to support people to meet new partners. Rhys Hadden from Serjeants’ Inn will join us to discuss recent cases in the Court of Protection including A Local Authority v C & Ors and the Supreme Court’s decision in JB.

About our speakers for the Sexuality after brain injury webinar

Richard Maddicks, Consultant Clinical Neuropschologist, Psychology Chartered

Richard’s initial immersion in Neuropsychology in the 1990’s was predicated on the strong belief that applied psychology should concern itself with helping people with the most challenging of human difficulties and experiences. A placement at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre as a clinical psychology trainee and subsequent completion of the post-doctoral diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology at the Maudsley Hospital, laid the foundation for extensive NHS work in in-patient and community Neuro-rehabilitation services.

Over 20 years experience in medico-legal work has seen him instructed as an expert neuropsychologist in civil, criminal and family law cases. However, his strong interest in multi-disciplinary neuro-rehabilitation and treatment(s) underpins an emphasis on therapeutic work with patients and associated ‘systems’ following trauma, head injury and adjustment to many complex neurological conditions. Wary of the ‘perils of independence’, Richard now works as a partially dependent practitioner in Portsmouth, brilliantly supported by his family, friends, professional network and team.

Rhys Hadden from Serjeants’ Inn
Rhys Hadden, Serjeants’ Inn. Call 2006. Rhys specialises in all areas of public and human rights law. He is regularly instructed to advise on a diverse range of matters including mental health, community care, health care, education, social housing and immigration law.

His knowledge of the law across a number of fields enables him to bring an innovative perspective to complex or unusual cases. Rhys is on the Attorney General’s Regional B Panel and the Welsh Government’s Junior Counsel A Panel. He is described in Chambers & Partners as “a brilliant advocate”.
