I am head of personal injury and clinical negligence at Balfour + Manson. I am based in our main office in Edinburgh but we also have an experienced team in Aberdeen. Between our two offices, we service the whole of Scotland and regularly travel to meet clients the length and breadth of the country.
My case load consists mainly of catastrophic injury, whether that is acquired brain injury or injury caused at birth. I also handle cases with an international aspect, and recently settled a substantial seven figure claim where all but one member of an Israeli family were killed in an accident and the sole survivor sustained a serious brain injury. I am currently dealing with two cases with a combination of brain and spinal/orthopaedic injury with clients as geographically diverse as Sutherland and Bristol.
I have been involved with the Edinburgh Headway Group for many years and our Aberdeen office is involved with Brain Injury Grampian. I have been a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers since its inception and was the Executive Committee member for Scotland for 8 years. I am convenor of the Personal Injury Panel of the Law Society of Scotland and I am a member of the Personal Injuries User Group in the Court of Session, Scotland.
Chambers UK guide said of me in its current edition:
“Team leader Fred Tyler has a deserved reputation for his work on high-value brain and spinal injury cases and also for the international dimension of his practice.”
