Dr English is on the GMC specialist register in Paediatrics (Paediatric Oncology). This means he has trained in Paediatrics and also in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer, leukaemia and brain tumours in children. He has been a full time NHS consultant since 1998 and more latterly has sub-specialised particularly in childhood brain tumours and the late effects of treatment for childhood cancer. He initially practised in Cardiff and has been a consultant at Birmingham Children’s Hospital since 2001.

He has particular expertise in chemotherapy having chaired the UK Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group (CCLG) Chemotherapy Working Group 2002 to 2010. He is the Chemotherapy Lead at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and chaired the Drug and Therapeutics Committee at Birmingham Children’s Hospital between 2006-12. He has been clinical lead for Paediatric Oncology (2003-10 and 2018 to present) He was associate Chief Medical Officer for Quality 2010-3. He was Secretary to the UK Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group between 2009-12.

He accepts instructions for reports concerning breach of duty, and causation from both plaintiffs and defendants.
