“Support from one person can give you a reason to try, support from a team shows you how it all fits together into a way forward” Linda – Marbrook Neuro Psychologist

 We understand that no one wants to remain in a care setting for any longer than is absolutely necessary. However, for some people, life changing medical events can mean that they need a much longer period of time to clinically stabilise and to achieve their best rehabilitation outcomes possible.

Our Nursing and Therapy Team

The Marbrook Centre is an award winning purpose built neurological rehabilitation and care centre. Our highly trained nursing and therapy team are here to support you and your family through the challenges life changing conditions can sometimes bring. We have created a talented Multi-Disciplinary Therapy team (MDT), meaning you could benefit from their collective skills, advice and knowledge.

Our MDT includes; Neurological Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and

Language Therapists, Neuro Psychologist and an Addenbrookes Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine. Residents also enjoy sessions with our Music and Art Therapists, as well as visits from our fully qualified PAT Dog.

People we care for

Whatever our age or lifestyle, anyone at any time can develop a neurological condition. In simple terms a neurological condition describes an adverse effect on our brain or nervous system, impairing our movement, our behaviour and our ability to communicate;

  • Acquired Brain Injury – including those caused by Trauma, Subarachnoid Haemorrhage, Hypoxia or Tumour etc.
  • Stroke – Ischaemic and Haemorrhagic
  • Spinal Cord Injury – resulting from traumatic or non-traumatic circumstances such as Transverse Myelitis or Tumour.
  • Motor Neurone Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntingdon’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and other Progressive Neurological Disorders.
  • Guillain Barre Syndrome and other Peripheral Neuropathy Conditions
  • Cerebral Palsy

Such a broad spectrum of neurological conditions makes it very difficult to predict the exact effects any of these life changing conditions will have on our lives. What is known, is that skilled and timely neurological therapy and nursing care means for some, the effects can be minimised thus maintaining skills, independence and quality of life, for as long as possible.
